Release of Clinical Services Plan

On Tuesday February 17th the Central East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) released its report on the Clinical Services Planning Project which makes recommendations on the future delivery of a variety of key health services in our region.

Recommendations on the integration of services in the following areas were made:

  • Cardiac Services
  • Maternal-Child-Youth Services
  • Mental Health and Addictions Services
  • Thoracic Surgery Services
  • Vascular Surgery Services

The goal of this initiative was to create “one acute care network” with improved and equitable access to an integrated hospital system that provides the highest quality of care across the Central East LHIN.

The report recognized the lack of optimal access to health services across the region, as well as the lack of specialized clinical services capacity and the financial challenges that are apparent in health today.

Of particular interest to the residents of Haliburton County will be the recommendations on Maternal-Child-Youth Services. The report recommended that HHHS discontinue elective obstetrical services citing the low volumes, and concerns about the adequate supply of trained health care providers able to provide this level of specialized care.

Haliburton County residents are encouraged to review the entire report and provide feedback to the Central East LHIN. To access the full report and feedback forms please link to the Central East website www.centraleastlhin.on.ca  and click on the “Clinical Services Plan” button on the bottom left hand side of the CE LHIN home page. Time frames to provide a response are identified in the report. Hard-copy versions of the report will be available at both Hospitals within the next week.

I would also like to invite community members to contact me directly should you require further information on the Clinical Services Plan.

 Thank-you,
