Physician Incentives
Physicians have the opportunity to be included in the E.R. roster at
HHHS, participating in the MOH Alternate Funding Arrangement (AFA) &
Hospital On-Call Coverage (HOCC) and through Health Force Ontario
(HFO). Minden & Haliburton
Emergency departments operate 24 hours every day (24X7).
Secondary care is mainly provided by the Peterborough Regional Health
Centre and Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay. Both hospitals are
approximately 1½ hours distance.
The County of Haliburton is designated "under-serviced" by
Ministry standards, and various grants for tuition, and nurse practitioner
funding are available. A community recruitment task group will provide
relocation grants up to $15,000. per physician for
a 3 year commitment. For further information and a tour of hospital
sites, please contact the Family Health Team (see below).
Family Health Team
The Ministry of Health & Long Term Care has funded a Family Health
Team (FHT) in the Haliburton Highlands. A partnership between the
HKPR Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), the Haliburton Highlands Health
Services (HHHS), and the Haliburton Family Health Network (Haliburton physicians)
has developed gradually, and is now providing health care to residents of Haliburton County. A group of health professionals,
including physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and health
specialists work closely with each other and with community partners to
provide service to people of the Highlands.
The Haliburton FHT is located in the new medical centre called Haliburton
Highlands Health Centre, and the Minden FHT offices are located in the
second story, above the Minden Emergency Hospital.
